The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Performance Air Cleaner Kit (Part # 28721-10) is a Stage I performance upgrade designed to give your Harley-Davidson motorcycle improved intake airflow, enhanced throttle response, and a more purposeful look. Developed by Harley-Davidson’s performance division under the Screamin’ Eagle label, this air cleaner kit combines functional performance gains with classic styling that complements many Dyna and Softail models. At its core, this air cleaner kit features a low-profile exposed element design that allows a greater volume of air to be drawn into the engine compared to the stock intake. More air flowing into the combustion chamber can help improve engine breathing, which often translates to stronger throttle response and more usable power throughout the rev range. The exposed element also gives the bike a more aggressive, track-inspired look — a styling cue that appeals to riders who want performance hardware that looks as good as it performs. The kit comes complete with everything needed for installation: a chrome low-profile air cleaner cover, high-flow filter element, back plate, Screamin’ Eagle badge, protective waterproof rain sock, and all necessary mounting hardware. The included rain sock helps shield the exposed filter from water and debris during wet weather, protecting the filter media and helping maintain performance in adverse conditions. This air cleaner kit is engineered to be easy to install as a direct replacement for the stock air cleaner system — no major modifications are required. However, because it increases the amount of air entering the engine, all EFI-equipped models require an ECM (engine control module) recalibration to ensure the air-fuel mixture is properly balanced after installation. Recalibration is typically done with a Screamin’ Eagle Pro Street Tuner or by a Harley-Davidson dealer, and it’s an important step to achieve optimal performance and avoid running the engine too lean or rich. Fitment for the 28721-10 kit includes ’10–’17 Dyna® models (with some exceptions) and ’10–’15 Softail® models (also with certain exclusions), making it suitable for a wide range of popular Harley-Davidson bikes from those model years. The kit is also 50-State U.S. EPA compliant, meaning it meets emissions standards for street use in the United States when paired with stock mufflers. Overall, the Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Performance Air Cleaner Kit offers riders a well-rounded upgrade that enhances airflow and visual appeal while maintaining street legality with proper calibration. It’s a solid choice for riders looking to elevate throttle response and give their bike a more performance-oriented intake system without extensive modification.
